Itinerary Plan
Day 1: Arrival and Check-in
Upon arrival in Mbale town, you will be transferred to your pre-booked accommodation,either in Mbale or the scenic Riverine Resort in Bududa Village, conveniently located near the start of the Bushiyi trailhead (approximately a 1-hour drive from Mbale). A comprehensive briefing regarding the Uganda hiking expedition will be conducted either upon arrival, during, or after dinner. Enjoy a relaxed evening, ensuring your electronic devices are charged and you have ample rest in preparation for your adventure.
Day 2: Bushiyi Trailhead to Dubi River Camp (3600masl, 12km)
After an early and hearty breakfast, those staying in Mbale will take a public taxi to Bududa Town, where Boda Bodas will provide a convenient transfer to the Bushiyi Village trailhead. Here, our dedicated team of ranger guides, supportive porters, and our cheerful chef will be awaiting your arrival. Your Mount Elgon trek commences from the Bushiyi information office, leading you through captivating montane forests and bamboo zones. Keep your eyes peeled for tropical bird species and opportunities to learn about the unique plant life. Enjoy the epic views as you make your way to Shiloko Cave Camp for a light hot lunch. Following lunch, we will continue our journey to Dubi River Camp, situated at an elevation of 3,600meters above sea level, where your tents will be set up for your first night of wilderness camping. A delicious dinner will be served, and if the weather is favorable, you can enjoy a beautiful sunset followed by a cozy bonfire before retiring for the night. Breakfast: 6:30am

Day 3: Dubi River Camp to Wagagai Peak (4321masl, 14km)
As the sun rises, we will enjoy breakfast and then set off on a scenic ascent towards Wagagai Peak. Along the way, you will be treated to views overlooking the Kenyan side of the mountain and experience the unique moorland vegetation, including species like Scenocia and the Mzungu hairy plant, as well as encountering Giant Lobelia and heather plants. Pleasenote that as we gain altitude, oxygen levels will decrease, making it essential to sip water and take snack breaks to maintain your energy. After the exhilarating experience of summiting Wagagai Peak, we will descend towards Jackson Pool and then make our way to our camp at Mwongogo Cave Camp, located at 3,810 meters above sea level, for our second night on the mountain during this high-altitude adventure. Day 4: Mwongongo Cave Camp to Kajeri Camp or Tutum Cave Camp (12km or 24km)
Following breakfast, we will depart from Mwongongo Cave Camp, embarking on a stunningly scenic trail that winds downstream and between the magnificent Mubiyi rocks.This route offers breathtaking views overlooking the Simu Valley as we detour around Mount Mubiyi, making for an absolutely gorgeous and captivating day of mountain exploration. The initial leg to Kajeri Camp covers approximately 12km with a few gentle inclines. Upon arrival at Kajeri Camp, you will be served a hot lunch and have some time to rest. Afterwards, you can decide whether to spend the night at Kajeri Camp or continue for another 11.5km to Tutum Cave Camp, which offers the advantage of being closer to the exit gate for the following day. Breakfast: 6:30 am Departure: 7:00 am Distance: 12km (Mwongogo to Kajeri) or 24km (Mwongogo to Tutum)
Day 5: Exiting the Park via Sipi Kapkwai Gate
Our final day of exploration will conclude with a descent towards the Sipi Kapkwai Gate. After breakfast and packing up, we will embark on the trail, covering either 11km from Tutum Cave Camp or 22km from Kajeri Valley Camp through gentle landscapes. The estimated time of arrival at the exit gate will depend on your fitness level and pace, typically ranging from 5-7 hours. Upon reaching the gate, we will complete the check-out process, bid farewell to our incredible team, and board Boda Bodas for a transfer back to Sipi Village, where you can choose to spend an additional night or continue to your next destination.
