Itinerary Plan
Day 1: Bushiyi Trailhead to Dubi River Camp
Upon arrival at the trailhead, you will be warmly greeted by our dedicated team of experienced ranger guides, supportive porters, and our cheerful chef at the Bushiyi information center. Your family expedition will begin with introductions and a comprehensive briefing outlining the flow of your itinerary, the captivating encounters that await designated resting points, the location of your delightful lunch break, and the setting for your first night’s wilderness camping. Following the briefing, you will embark on your journey, traversing beneath the verdant canopy of the Elgon Montane Forest, serenaded by the enchanting sounds and calls of diverse bird species, playful squirrels, and curious monkeys, all while enjoying astonishing scenic viewpoints. Lunch Break: Shiloko Camp (2,700 meters above sea level) Night Camp: Dubi River Camp (3,600 meters above sea level) Distance: 12km Duration: Approximately 7-8 hours
Day 2: Ascend to the Second Highest Point in Eastern Uganda (4,321 meters above sea level)
Begin your day with an early and nourishing breakfast, preparing you for the mountain peak climbing. The 9km trek from the camp to the peak unfolds across a plateau and gentle hill landscape, winding through captivating heather and moorland vegetation, including iconic species such as Scenocia and giant Lobelias. Marvel at the stunning landscapes that stretch into the Kenyan territory as you progress towards the peak. Recognizing that this higher elevation presents a slightly reduced oxygen level, we strongly encourage you to maintain consistent hydration, replenish your energy with snacks, wear appropriate protective gear, and proceed at a comfortable pace towards the summit during this high-altitude adventure.Having successfully conquered the peak, you will retrace your steps past Dubi Camp, descending directly to Shiloko Cave Camp for a well-deserved lunch and your second night under the stars. Shiloko Camp, situated at an elevation of 2,734 meters above sea level, is nestled amidst the serene embrace of bamboo and montane forests. Breakfast: 6:30 am Departure: 7:00 am Distance: 20km (to and from the peak) Difficulty: Gentle ascents and steep descents
Day 3: Shiloko to Bushiyi Gate
Your remarkable 3-day Mount Elgon experience will draw to a close as we complete the sign-out process in the exit book. Bid farewell to our dedicated team of porters, knowledgeable ranger guides, and your cheerful chef before boarding Boda Bodas for a transfer to Riverine Resort. Here, you may opt for a lunch stop at your own expense or take the opportunity to change before your onward journey to Mbale town.
